We did some rolling today so feel free to skate or classic on the surface. I'm not sure I would use my best skis, some thin spots. Also some wet spots.
Start at the Kingswood lodge. Some trails in Kingswood done. The connector isn't in great shape but passable. The big loop in the woodlot is done.

Thank you very much.
ReplyDeleteThe new skate trails over the Kingswood greens are rutted but surprisingly good. However, given the thinness of the snow plus ice here and there, Kingswood/woodlot trail conditions elsewhere for both classic and skate are still mostly marginal and only occasionally fair.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't find the Kingswood entrance. Walked in through Liam - very rough. Double poled the entire way around the loop. Skating very sketchy.
ReplyDeleteWhen looking at the main lodge(wooden building) - go to the right side of it. The trail starts very near by.

Friday afternoon saw a number of skiers on the Kingswood fairway trail. The Woodlot loop had pretty good snow coverage with a pretty good skier made classic track. Given the freezing temperatures all classic and skating ski ruts are frozen providing some interesting skiing.
ReplyDeleteDo we need more snow before trails can be rolled again? Expect so..
ReplyDeleteCorrect. We need more snow. Rolling is ineffective on the crust and we don't have enough base to use the Ginzu.

Scrambly but fun on the trails in Kingswood and the Woodlot this morning.
ReplyDeleteTried the Lian St access Sat. Really too rough for anyone with my skill level and age. Ended up going back to Kent Road trail. Disappointing that the cars win out over people, once again. Think I'll be contacting my city councillor about the Smythe St traffic circle and lack of consideration of skiers and users of the woodlot. Glenna Hanley
ReplyDeletePerhaps all we need is a crosswalk
ReplyDeleteI considered the Lian st access on Jan 1/16--looked too treacherous for me.I am hoping we get lots of snow soon..
ReplyDelete+1 on the Lian St. access. It's a poor substitute to the Bishop Dr/Kent Rd. access.
ReplyDeletePlease groom the trails soon.
ReplyDeleteKingswood trails were great for skate skiing today.
ReplyDeleteThanks to the groomers who rolled and tracked the trails today.
ReplyDeleteObservations:
ReplyDeleteBishop/Kent: A dead horse; let it go. The roundabout is accommodating over 20,000 vehicles a day and this will only increase. This dangerous situation will never pass a risk assessment. The club could be incurring liabilities by grooming to this access point.
Liam: This will be an excellent, convenient access once there is more snow and lower temperatures.
Grooming: The groomers work miracles but we can't expect them to groom rocks, grass and water.
